Winery News
We are now preparing many wines for bottling over the next few months in the lead up to Christmas and Vintage 2010.
We are eagerly awaiting the bottling of our 2008 Mozcato and also a sparkling white wine. These will both be bottled in the same format as the Sparkling Rose – Petillant.
We are also anticipating the bottling of the Mistletoe 2009 Reserve Chardonnay.
We didn’t make a Reserve Chardonnay in 2008 as the vineyard that supplies the grapes for this wine was wiped out by disease brought on by the heavy rainfall we experienced early in February 2008.
The 2009 is looking fantastic at this stage and Nick our winemaker feels it could even rival the multi award winning 2004. This wine will be released in the Mistletoe Christmas Newsletter, for those of you who love great Chardonnay, keep an eye out for this one!
All the 2009 reds, both Hunter and Hilltops, are also looking fantastic and will be bottled in time for release in the Autumn 2010 newsletter.
You may remember we brought an Italian winemaker to the Hunter to assist us with vintage 2008.
Lorenzo went to run the Cassegrain winery in Port Macquarie after he finished vintage with Mistletoe.
He has now just returned to America where he married his American fiancée and from there he is off to do vintage in Spain. Lorenzo and Cuquita are planning a second wedding in Florence, Italy, in late November or early December and Gwen and I are invited to attend.
We had a farewell dinner with the nearly weds at Kylie Kwong’s restaurant, Billy Kwong, in Sydney, early July, the night before they left for America.
We had a great night at there and highly recommend it. We believe it to be one of the very best restaurants in Australia.
Kylie Kwong quite often visits the Eveleigh Market which has impressed her with the quality and variety of the produce available.
